Fr. Lan Ngo and Fr. Chanh Nguyen tell the story of fleeing from Vietnam when they were only teenagers. America accepts them in the refugee camp and they grow up in the United States. 25 years later they share their emotions and traumatic experiences involved in their dramatic escape. It’s the story of their continuous struggle to put their lives together, have a sense of belonging in the adopted homeland and make meaning out of it. Culturally they do not feel at home, language is a problem, they feel their growth is stopped. They express it by comparing themselves to a tree wrapped in a strong plastic wrap. Embracing the reality, this story will end with hope by both Lan and Chanh expressing what they hope to do with their lives? What makes them happy? How they see light in the midst of darkness?
